Born in Canada, Lourens Oberholzer grew up in South Africa and got his BA degree in 1984, majoring in English, Communications and an African language. He had been writing and performing songs since the age of 15. Immediately after he and his wife Thea got married, they went on the road around Southern Africa, performing as musicians in clubs, bars and restaurants. This they did professionally for 7 years and then, semi-professionally for 3 years. In 1993 he started lecturing in Johannesburg and began designing courses; amongst them media, public relations and a songwriting course that was primarily sponsored by Tusk Record Company and successfully presented in 1996. Lourens wrote jingles and soundtracks for commercials and documentaries, amongst them ABSA Bank, Longhorn Steakhouse and Dew Crisp Hydroponics.
In 1998, he acquired a TEFL certificate and, together with Thea, traveled to Taiwan where they taught English for 5 years. During this time, Lourens became the Director of English Studies at Tian Tsai American Language School in Tainan. In 2003 he, together with his wife and a group of friends which at that stage had been scattered all over the globe, came to Thailand and resided in Phuket for a period of 6 months where they embarked on a serious extended brain-storming session. This was where Three Little Fridges was born. In 2004 Lourens and the rest of the group moved to Bangkok where the company was officially started and of which he is now the managing director.
His driving force and passion is Christ. He believes that everyone should pursue that which God has called them to do.
